Kobe Declercq: The AfD put the Identitarian Movement on its incompatibility list. What’s your answer to that?
Maximilian Märkl: Yeah, that happened a long time ago, but nobody had the will to change this false decision. It was just a copy and paste from the secret service of the state, and a mistake happened, and I think it’s high time to correct this mistake.
Kobe Declercq: What can a movement do that a party simply cannot? Why does the IB exist alongside the AfD rather than inside of it?
Maximilian Märkl: We don’t have to think about the next election necessarily. We can provoke, we can say stuff where you might not get elected next month because it seems to be too provocative. We try to shift the Overton window so the AfD can follow and build the real political power inside the parliament, so we try to work together as good as possible.

Kobe Declercq: L’AfD a inscrit le Mouvement Identitaire sur sa liste d’incompatibilité. Quelle est votre réponse à cela ?
Maximilian Märkl: Oui, c’est arrivé il y a longtemps, mais personne n’a eu la volonté de revenir sur cette mauvaise décision. C’était simplement un copier-coller des services secrets de l’État, une erreur s’est produite, et je pense qu’il est grand temps de corriger cette erreur.
Kobe Declercq: Que peut faire un mouvement qu’un parti ne peut tout simplement pas faire ? Pourquoi l’IB existe-t-elle aux côtés de l’AfD plutôt qu’en son sein ?
Maximilian Märkl: Nous n’avons pas nécessairement à penser à la prochaine élection. Nous pouvons provoquer, nous pouvons dire des choses avec lesquelles vous ne seriez peut-être pas élu le mois prochain parce que ça semble trop provocateur. Nous essayons de déplacer la fenêtre d’Overton pour que l’AfD puisse suivre et construire le vrai pouvoir politique au parlement, donc nous essayons de travailler ensemble du mieux possible.

Maximilian Märkl: Ja, das ist schon lange her, aber niemand hatte den Willen, diese falsche Entscheidung zu korrigieren. Es war einfach ein Copy-and-paste vom Verfassungsschutz, ein Fehler ist passiert, und ich denke, es ist längst an der Zeit, diesen Fehler zu korrigieren.
Kobe Declercq: Was kann eine Bewegung tun, was eine Partei schlicht nicht kann? Warum existiert die IB neben der AfD und nicht innerhalb von ihr?
Maximilian Märkl: Wir müssen nicht unbedingt an die nächste Wahl denken. Wir können provozieren, wir können Dinge sagen, mit denen man vielleicht nächsten Monat nicht gewählt wird, weil es zu provokativ wirkt. Wir versuchen, das Overton-Fenster zu verschieben, damit die AfD folgen und echte politische Macht im Parlament aufbauen kann, also versuchen wir, so gut wie möglich zusammenzuarbeiten.
